Four Essex players, Elli Barrott. Conor Adams, Aaron Allpress and Ben Richardson were in action at the Beckenham Open on Sunday all producing encouraging performances.
Elli (pictured left) entered the Girls’ U13 competition coming up against four girls from Kent. She won three of her four round-robin matches, dropping only one game, as she beat Islay Thornicroft, Lara Higgins and Aliza Sheikh. Her only defeat was against eventual winner, Lotti Taylor French
Aaron, who was seeded one in the under-17’s, had a first-round bye before beating Ryan Grant 2 – 0. He then overcame Jordan Warne 2 – 0 in the semi-final, particularly pleasing results as the Essex player had never previously beaten either Ryan or Jordan.
In the final, Aaron lost 2 – 0 against Josh Atwell who has recently returned to England from two years in Hong Kong. Before moving to the far east, Atwell was a highly ranked players in his year and has recently won six tournaments in a row as he fights to reclaim his ranking.
Ben, meanwhile, lost his first round match 0 – 2 to Alistair Shapcott before progressing to the Plate Final which he eventually lost 0 – 2 to Tsang Chi Ming.
Conor won his first round match 2 – 0 against Lucas Hughesbut went down 1 – 2 to Jordan Warne in the quarter finals. It was Conor’s best performance against Jordan and all three games were very close.
